The Local Context Project works in the Oakland Unified School District high schools to develop and deliver 11th and 12th grade level supplemental government civics curriculum. The curriculum is focused on current, local affairs with the hope of enhancing civic participation in Oakland's youth.
The curriculum this past year focused on Redistricting, the decennial redrawing of political boundaries after the U.S. Census to reflect population shifts. The curriculum explores how communities can learn about and participate in the City of Oakland's and the County of Alameda's governmental process.
